Bridges
A bridge is a series of crowns that replaces a missing tooth. A crown is placed on the teeth on either side of the missing tooth, with another crown suspended between the two. The resulting ‘bridge’ gives the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. Once in cemented in place, it does not come out. A bridge can be made to replace even several missing teeth.
It’s never a good thing to have a missing tooth, and a bridge maintains your ability to chew with as many teeth as possible, reducing unnecessary stresses on remaining teeth. It is also useful in preventing shifting of the teeth that can lead to problems with food getting trapped between teeth or an increase in the amount of biting forces the surrounding teeth must withstand, as well as periodontal disease.
